      Avocados and plant sterols. In addition to food products fortified with plant sterols, certain whole foods contain naturally-occurring plant sterols, specifically vegetables, whole grains, oils, legumes, fruits and nuts. In a study published in the journal Pharmaceutical Biology, researchers from the University of Antioquia in Medellin, Colombia found that extract from avocado fruit and seeds caused leukemia cells to self-destruct.

      Avocado oil possesses antioxidant properties, and it contains oleic acid, a monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acid and, lutein. Avocado oil helps in maintaining cholesterol level and improves heart.   A study published in The Journal of Nutrition found that eating carotenoids (antioxidants including lycopene and beta-carotene) with avocado or avocado oil increased their absorption. Avocados may help prevent and treat cancer.
